04 May LOOK: The 5,000-Peso Lapu-Lapu Banknote
Mga higala! After around 3 months from its launch, photos of the official P5,000 Lapu-Lapu Commemorative Banknote have finally been released online!
This banknote was made by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) and the National Quincentennial Committee (NQC) with the aim of promoting and celebrating “the heroism of Lapulapu and his warriors, and to familiarize the present generation with the country’s rich pre-colonial history”.
ICYKD, the 500th anniversary of the “Victory at Mactan” (against Ferdinand Magellan) was commemorated last April 27.
“The quincentennial is an opportune time to promote appreciation of the world of our pre-colonial ancestors such as their way of life, worldview, and belief system based on historical sources. Understanding them helps us discern the process of our becoming and being Filipino.” -NQC
