28 Sep Top 5 Places to Go In or Around Cagayan de Oro When You Want to Hide from the World
Since the basic topic is hiding – or disappearing – from the world, at the onset we can suggest three places where you can hide or disappear.
You can hide in the forests or jungles of Bukidnon. Or you can take a pick and shovel and start digging in a vacant lot. After several months you can construct an underground bunker, stock it with food and supplies, and disappear. If you want something simpler, simply stay at home, don’t go out, turn off your phone and social media, and disappear. We’re just kidding.
On a more serious note, if your concept of hiding (and not entirely disappearing) is merely to get away from the hustle and bustle of busy city life, work, and some “nagging” problems (emphasis on nagging), there are 5 places in Cagayan de Oro or the surrounding provinces nearby where you can just “take the day off.”
Eden’s Solace
This place opened only recently this year looking like a mini-sanctuary and “tambayan” from the city but with a full kitchen and restaurant inside, albeit, with nipa roofs and walls.
It is located along the Macasandig-Indahag road leading to the CEPALCO Solar Plant. The entrance fee is P20 for all ages. There are rental cottages and plenty of places to sit around the place and they even offer board games like chess, scrabble, and Sungka.
To get there you need to ride the Indahag jeepney from Cogon Market and ask to be dropped at Eden’s Solace. The fare one-way is only P10. Since the place directly faces the sunset, this is the best place to catch that moment. The owner must be a frustrated poet since in every cottage there are excerpts from famous poems nailed on a post.
Hugo Skye Lounge
This is the city’s newest hilltop venue where you can chill while enjoying the sunset and night overview of the city. It’s located in Indahag.
It has a restaurant and bar, though most of the area is open so you can eat dinner under the stars. It has a generally peaceful atmosphere, and even the acoustic band that plays at night seems to complement the peace around rather than disturbing it.
It is actually part of a much larger development for the future called Sierra del Oro that will add another restaurant, a coffee shop, flower gardens and landscaped surroundings, a function area, glass chapel, and an infinity pool with an overlooking view. For now, only those with vehicles can reach the place.
Alomah’s Place
Kagay-anons are already used to hearing about “Dahilayan” and associating it with the forest and adventure park there. But Dahilayan is also the barangay, and in this place there is a hidden gem that is just picking up in popularity.
Manolo Fortich can often be cold and foggy, and this adds to the mystery and adventure of Alomah’s Place, a serene mountain resort beside the Dahilayan Elementary School.
Aside from the place that is perfect for retreats, recollections, team building, and family bonding, you can also have an overnight stay in tents.
Zordz Restobar
This Restobar is the newest night spot in the city located at the Convention Center crossroads along the Taguanao Road. As a Restobar away from the city’s busy hustle and bustle scenes, Zordz is a good venue for a night out with the family, friends, or work colleagues.
It has a restaurant, a live acoustic band from Wednesdays to Sundays, KTV rooms, a coffee shop, function rooms, catering services, billiards, and darts. It has almost everything for almost every food, drink, and night life taste. The place is designed around a nature-based theme since the place is surrounded by hills, trees, landscaping, and other greenery.
In terms of accessibility for those without vehicles, there are actually Taguanao jeepneys that ply the route going to Zordz. Their starting point and parking area is at the Footstep area in Cogon Market. There are available jeepneys until 8:00 p.m. and the fare is only P12. For the near future the proprietors are planning to set up a shuttle service with minimum fare. In the meantime, they encourage those using taxi services to use Grab Taxi since they are easily called on to bring anyone to and from Zordz.
High Ridge Restaurant
This restaurant has one of the best overviews of the city especially at night. Coupled with the restaurant’s great ambiance, interior design, and good food, whether you’re spending time with your family, loved one, friends, or colleagues, you can never ignore the great overview of the city at night that brings out the romantic in every cynic.
The breathtaking panoramic view is just that, breathtaking. The place has been well developed to the point that the place almost feels like a grade-A city restaurant with its own al-fresco restaurant and air-conditioned function rooms.
There is an entrance fee of P100 that is consumable at the restaurant. They have seafood and baby back ribs platters that are good for 4 persons. It is located 3 kilometers off the main Aluba Hill-Taguanao Road.
Who says hiding means you just have to stay at a corner doing nothing? Know that you can always find retreat at these places we mentioned, may you be alone or with special persons you want to spend time with. Either through food, or quiet time as long as you are away and out of the busy city life. Definitely, hiding that is worthwhile.
