06 Oct Top 5 Restaurants in Cagayan de Oro That are Perfect for Your Next Wine Pairing Date
In all honesty, there used to be a time not long ago that wine pairing dates in Cagayan de Oro were frowned upon when undertaken by younger couples. Wine was something that was usually partaken only during very special occasions and parties, and usually only by the rich elite.
Fast forward to the 21st century and Cagayan de Oro has finally joined the more civilized world with restaurants and bars now introducing wines and cocktails on their regular menu. With that, couples going out on dates can now order these drinks either by themselves or after taking in a sumptuous dinner. So, a romantic dinner date on any night can always be paired by a bottle of wine or a couple of glasses of cocktails. Anyway, here are the wine pairing date places we so far know of.
Misto Restaurant and Bar – Seda Centrio Hotel
Misto Restaurant and Bar is on the 4th floor of the Seda Centrio Hotel. You almost immediately see it when you enter the entrance lobby of the hotel. It has this cool and quiet ambience you won’t find in the middle of the noisy city. It has now introduced its new happy hour that they call, “Why Limit Happy to an Hour?” During this happy hour at the Misto, all local beers are at P80 (net) per bottle while all other alcoholic beverages are at 30% discount per glass. There are also discounts for their wide selection of red and white wines by the bottle.
Of course, the happy hour isn’t just about beers since Misto sells a wide array of alcoholic cocktail variants for everyone’s taste. For those not into alcoholic drinks, Misto makes available its “virgin mocktails” selection. It’s the drinks available on the menu with the same mixture minus the alcohol content. The happy hour is on Monday to Friday from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. This is probably perfect for couples who can get away during this time or need to be home early (wink, wink, nudge, nudge). If you prefer the weekends or a really romantic evening dinner, then Misto is still the place for you at still affordable prices.
Kave Restaurant – Limketkai Luxe Hotel
Cagayan de Oro’s only five-star hotel has its own Kave Restaurant (pronounced ka-ve). They have become pronouncedly popular with their themed dinner and breakfast buffets that are changed every week. Based on mostly positive reviews the selection and taste of the foods has become comparable to international hotels, or at least the ones in Manila and Cebu.
Its desserts are also becoming a favorite for those with sweet teeth. For a romantic getaway within the city, the restaurant’s quiet ambience is just perfect, with some soothing jazz music every night from its performers. And when you delve into their wine and cocktail menu, you’ll find a wide selection of drinks by the glass or bottle that suits your taste. Their wine selection will never leave you whining (couldn’t help that one).
The Wine Cellar
Who would have thought that you can find a wine pairing dating spot in the middle of J.R. Borja Extension? If you’re really into wines, this unique and unorthodox wine place called The Wine Cellar and Bar has opened those somewhat hidden doors to fine wines and other liquors since it opened in June 2013. Many locals passing by its location along J.R. Borja Extension at the Great Spot Arcade, next to Lefty’s and Chardiel Coffee Machine are often perplexed with what the wine place and bar is all about.
This is probably because it was known as Forth & Tay when it opened back in 2012. The name has changed, though the proprietorship is the same, and all the unique wine and liquor experience you probably only see in movies or TV programs are there for you to discover. You will find many wines there that you would normally see only in fashion or food magazines, or perhaps in Manila or Cebu. Even per bottle the wines are affordable since they’re not sold at restaurant prices.
T.G.I. Fridays Restaurant and Bar
If you’re one those who raised an eyebrow for seeing T.G.I.F. on this list, then you’re one of countless who don’t know that T.G.I. Fridays is actually a casual dining restaurant with its own bar menu that serves really good wine selections and cocktails. For instance, they serve white wine such as La Crema Chardonnay from California or Moscato from Italy. For the red wine they serve Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot from California and Malbec from Argentina.
They even have premium selections from Italy and California and sparkling and champagne from France. The bar also serves a long list of handcrafted cocktails like sangrias, margaritas, coolers, and punches, to name a few. In fact, according to T.G.I.F., what you see on the menu is only a few of what they really serve for wines and cocktails. If you don’t see something you’re familiar with, you can ask the bartender or waiter if they have it. Chances are, they do. There’s only one T.G.I.F. in the city and it’s at the Ayala Centrio Mall. You’ll love Americana-themed décor.
Italianni’s Restaurant
Italianni’s has always been known as a fine dining place for authentic Italian dishes and breakfast meals. What they’ve never been known for is having a long and arrayed list of specialty cocktails served by the glass or by the liter.
After dinner you can romantically spruce up the night by ordering from their selection of Agaves, sangrias, cosmopolitans, Mojitos, margaritas, daiquiris, madras, and even their iced teas laced with choices of gin, vodka, rum, tequila, or triple sec. They have cocktail by the liter if the two of you are up to finishing as much. These do go well if it’s a group couple’s date. And if you’re not into cocktails you can always go for their imported beers. This one is located at the Ayala Centrio Mall.
Now that you know where to go for your next wine pairing date, surprise your loved one and have a grand time together. These places are a refreshing take to what used to be “ordinary dates” and they make your moment together, extra special.
