If you want to enjoy lush beaches with white sand but don’t have the budget to go to Boracay or Palawan, these stunning beaches near Cagayan de Oro can still give you what you’re looking for! What makes these beaches more interesting is that they’re not very popular and haven’t been discovered by many. Take time to visit them and explore the beauties of nature near our beloved city!

Agutayan White Island, Jasaan

From Cagayan de Oro, go east towards Jasaan and look for the Jasaan Port. If you’re a small group you can negotiate with the local fishermen to take you to the island and back from P700 to P1,000.

If you’re a large group, go to Barangay Jampason and hire a motorized boat for around P1,200. Agutayan is a crescent-shaped and naked island uninhabited off the coast of Jasaan, Misamis Oriental.

Shallow scuba divers and amateur divers love this island because of its constant sightings of eagle ray, surgeon fish, starfish, and other aquatic biologicals that live in and around the beautiful coral reefs. It is also a marine sanctuary as the breeding ground for endangered giant clams.

The sand isn’t as white and fine when compared to White Island in Camiguin, but it’s still fun to go there especially in the early morning or late afternoon.

It can get stinging hot during midday since the island has no cover; like White Island, it’s just a sandbar. If you plan to stay almost the whole day, make sure to bring enough food, water, cooking, and eating utensils and equipment.

Mantangale Alibuag Dive Resort, Balingoan

Before you reach Camiguin Island (not province), you only need to be pointed in the direction of Balingoan.

These resorts are open to the beach and also have their own swimming pools. The resorts usually charge fees for the entrance, a picnic hut, and to use the swimming pool. It’s around 2 hours’ drive from Cagayan de Oro to Talisayan itself.

It’s an hours’ drive from Cagayan de Oro to Lagonglong, Misamis Oriental. Be forewarned, if you plan to avail of the aqua park and pool slides, they won’t allow you to wear any type of jeans and cottonette shorts.

The slides are inflatables and are vulnerable to sharp objects like buttons and zippers. The aqua park, banana boat, stand up paddle, tandem kayak, wooden Bangka, and jet ski, all have separate fees and charges.

They also have rooms good for 2 persons. You have a choice of either enjoying at the swimming pool or enjoying along the beach since there are picnic huts available.

Blu Sands Beach Resort, Initao

This fairly new resort is at Tubigan, Initao, Misamis Oriental, only about an hour’s drive from Cagayan de Oro.

The major part of the resort is given to the hotel itself, with screened and roofed beach side cottages on the beach front.

The beach cottages are good for families and groups who want to enjoy beach swimming while at night guests can enjoy the large swimming pool for night swimming, though the pool is also open during the daytime for guests who prefer fresh water to salt water.
