Tropical Deppression Agaton Accelerates Westward

ISSUED AT: 5:00 AM, 02 January 2018 #AgatonPh HAS SLIGHTLY ACCELERATED AND IS NOW TRAVERSING BOHOL SEA.

January 2, 2018- According to PAG-ASA’s 5 am weather bulletin, Tropical Depression Agaton has accelerated yet again as it crossed the Bohol Sea this morning.

Around 4:00 am today, Agaton was 95 kilometers east of Tagbilaran City, Bohol, with 55 kilometers per hour sustained winds, which can gust up to 90 kph.

Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal 1 was raised over:

  • Palawan,
  • Southern Leyte,
  • Bohol,
  • Cebu,
  • Siquijor,
  • Guimaras,
  • Negros Oriental,
  • Negros Occidental,
  • Surigao del Norte including Siargao Island,
  • Agusan del Norte,
  • Dinagat Island,
  • northern Misamis Oriental,
  • Camiguin, and
  • Zamboanga del Norte.

Sea travel around these areas remained risky, given the 1.25 to four-meter wave heights.

Agaton is also expected to bring scattered to widespread moderate to heavy rain, which may cause flooding and landslides in areas such as:

  • Visayas,
  • Caraga Region,
  • Northern Mindanao Region,
  • Zamboanga Peninsula Region,
  • Lanao del Sur,
  • Davao del Norte,
  • Compostela Valley,
  • Davao Oriental, and
  • Palawan.

Cagayan de Oro City’s NDRRMD and other related departments are already preparing for any damages that will be caused by TD Agaton. Various evacuation areas have been prepared and residents near flood-prone areas are advised to take shelter.
