09 Jun Tuition Fee Increase in 53 Private Schools in Northern Mindanao Approved by DepEd
For the upcoming school year 2016 to 2017, the Department of Education (DepEd) approved as of Monday, June 6, the request for tuition fee increase among 1,232 out of the total 12,072 private schools (elementary and high school) in the country.120

In order for a school to be granted approval for tuition fee increase, as suggested in DepEd’s 2010 Manual of Regulation for Private Schools, 70% of the proceeds must be allocated for the salary increase of the school’s faculty and other employees. With the rest be allocated for student assistance, return of investment (should not exceed 12% of the incremental proceeds), and institutional development.
In Northern Mindanao, 53 private schools were granted an approval of their tuition fee increase request. 178 private schools from the National Capital Region (NCR), making it the region with the most number of schools that were given approval for an increase in their fees. Meanwhile, the only region where there will be no increase fees in schools is the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
