08 Sep US Gives Two Military Aircraft to Philippines, Be Delivered in December
On September 7, Wednesday, the coast guard stated that the United States will be giving the Philippines two used military aircraft to help the country strengthen sea patrols in the issue of territorial disputes with China.
Philippine coast guard spokesman Commander Armand Balilo said that the two Sherpa 30-seater aircraft will be received in December.
Balilo stated, “It will help us in the movements of the Philippine Coast Guard like patrol missions.”
Last Monday, Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte started a diplomatic row with the country’s longtime ally the United States over the controversial remarks. Despite this issue, US would still help the Philippines in the south China Sea dispute.
But on the next day, President Duterte regretted the strong comments, as the US leader plans to raise the issue of extrajudicial killings under the war against illegal drugs in Duterte’s administration.
Meanwhile, Balilo stated that the two aircraft – Britten-Norman Islanders, will help the coast guard expands its air patrol capability.
