23 Feb Vendors of Cagayan de Oro to Use Mobile Payment System
“With less human intervention, transacting business with the government will be faster and red tape and corruption minimized,” Mayor Oscar Moreno said.
This mobile payment system, e-Bayad Tour 2016, which is a part of the E-PESO program backed by the USAID or United States Agency for International Development is expected to be of use among vendors of Cagayan de Oro. About 8,000 vendors from this city’s two biggest public markets will be given the chance to avail this system later this week.
According to Eileen E. San Juan, City Investment and Promotions Officer, the local government has escalated the promotion of this payment system which happened to be available since 2014.
The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas is supported by the E-PESO program in the utilization of the National Retail Payment System- uses e-payments in government-to-person and person-to-government transactions. This aims to shift the Philippines from a cash-based economy to digital.
To be also scheduled this month in the cities of Batangas, Valenzuela, Iloilo and Quezon, USAID and local government representatives will orient the vendors on how to speed up their online transactions using mobile telephones.
