Vixen designed in South Korea focuses on nail art and accessories as well as eyelash extension. Though it has been marketed in the past here in Cagayan de Oro, this is the first time Vixen has partnered with a wellness and beauty spa salon that will be using their products first hand. The great advantage in this is that all tools and materials for the services will come from South Korea. Vixen by Sanctuary is a partnership between Mary Jane “Gigi” Martinez Lazaga – proprietor of Sanctuary – and Korean businesswoman Jin Choung of Vixen.

Vixen nail polish carries a great advantage over other so-called “affordable” brands because Vixen dries quickly and lasts longer due to its high quality mix. It uses a sock-off gel coloring that lasts around 30 days and there are more than 300 colors to choose from.

Vixen and Sanctuary provides a different form of nail art polishing and nail extension here in the city starting with the laying of the initial 2-3 layers of the base, gel, and polish. This is followed by the placing of the hands inside the drying machine to ensure that the nails are fully dried off, thus, the finished nails will have no smudges.

Customers going for the nail art and nail extension are allowed to create their own designs or customize existing ones. There is a one-week warranty to retouch faded nail polish. The Sanctuary/Vixen staff also offers to do nail repairs if needed, and the normal manicure and pedicure services will always be offered.

Vixen also offers eyelash extensions that last 2-3 weeks longer than other traditional eyelash extensions. The eyelash extension glue from South Korea does not contain any strong adhesives and is thus, safe for use near the eyes, unlike other eyelash extension glue that purports to last a couple of months, but, is harmful to the original lashes because of the strong adhesive chemicals.

Here’s an official line-up of their nails and eyelashes services:

The Rise of Nail Art

Ironically, the historical beginnings of nail art began when ancient Babylonian males colored their nails with plant colors to indicate social status. Nail colors were started by ancient Egyptian women using henna plant juice. Egypt’s Queen Nefertiti and Queen Cleopatra used red and rusty shades with gold undertones; ordinary women were not allowed to use the same color as the queen. Coloring the nails among women also denoted social status in Egypt and later in ancient China. The first nail art emerged from French manicurists in 1976, which was eventually capitalized by the French cosmetic company, Orly. Ironically again, nail art did not pick up in the U.S. and South Korea until 2012.

Nail art has become such a perfected art that different coats of polish, color, and gels can be used as well as nail extensions for bigger nail art designs, the addition of external nail accessories like studs, rhinestones, miniature bow-ties, and beads, and even neon and 3D art.

Eyelash Extensions

This is the simple beauty art of enhancing the length, thickness, and fullness of the natural eyelashes or attaching extensions to the natural lashes made of silk, mink, or synthetic hair. In history, between 1879 and 1901, beauticians believed that longer lashes could be achieved by cutting at the edges of the lashes so that they grew longer. In 1902 the first artificial lashes by German hair specialist Charles Nestle was invented and eventually patented in 1903 using hair from wigs.
