A labor official announced that starting on October 9, there will be an increase of P20 to the daily minimum wage for private sector employees in Central Mindanao.

On September 27, Tuesday, Regional Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) 12 board secretary, Jessie Dela Cruz said that the raise was included in the wage order by RTWPB.

The wage order comprises the provinces of South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, North Cotabato and Sarangani and the cities of General Santos, Cotabato, Kidapawan, Tacurong and Koronadal, the director of the Department of Labor and Employment in Central Mindanao, Albert Gutib said.

Effective on October 9, 2016, a daily wage of P295 will be given to the employees of the non-agricultural sector while P277 daily wage for the workers in the agricultural, retail and services sector, according to Gutib.

The RTWPB held discussions and conferences with labor group and employer before coming up with the new wage order, which issued two years after the last wage increase in the region.

The new wage order adds the Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) of P5 into the new minimum wage rates, Gutib clarified.

The sectoral or industry classification of workers was also simplified into two: non-agriculture and agriculture/retail/service sector, as stated in the new wage order.
