06 Jun Wander through White Beach and Giant Clams in Camiguin
Yes, you read it right! Giant Clams.
Clams bigger than your hands or heavier than a boulder are cultivated in a sanctuary near Barangay Cantaan in Guinsiliban, Camiguin’s smallest municipality. The sanctuary is called Kabila Giant Clam Conservation and Ocean Nursery which cultivates about 2,000 clams including the Giant Clams and home to 7 out of 9 Giant Clams species in the world.
Going to Camiguin, the sanctuary is a ride away down south of Camiguin Island to the Municipality of Guinsilban. The sanctuary is nestled in a cove where you can also find the fine white sands of Kabila White Beach.
For only about P25 pesos you can actually enter the sanctuary and learn more about the clams. If you want to explore and see the clams in their natural habitat you will need to pay P150 pesos and some mask or snorkels gears (if you didn’t bring any) for only P250. Although if you bring your own snorkel gear, you would need to pay for a corkage, so it’s better to just use theirs. LifeVest, Flippers, and Goggles have also corresponding rental fees.
Included in your entrance fee is a free tour of their clam lab where you can actually see clams in a cultivation pool. Also, the sanctuary has also table for rent wherein you can rest and place belongings.
Kabila White Beach on the other hand is a heaven for those who want a rather peaceful and tranquil environment -away from all the other tourist in the area. The waters are calm and inviting which is good for relaxation.
Giant Clams are endangered species so be careful not to damage or do some activities that could disturb their habitat.
