In a Press Release by Cagayan de Oro Water District, the water supply shortage which started last September 25 on the most part of the west service area in Cagayan de Oro City will continue until all the pipelines of the Rio Verde Water Consortium Inc. (RCWCI) are completely repaired and functional.

One of the identified causes of the water shortage is the damage of the 650mm diameter pipeline crossing Cagayan River. The damage was due to river debris carried by the strong currents of the river brought by continuous rains and the recent magnitude 5 earthquake that hit many provinces in Mindanao including Cagayan de Oro City.

During a meeting between COWD and RVWCI, it was promised that normal water supply of 40, 000 smpd will be restored tomorrow, October 6 in all affected areas in the city.

Furthermore, the management of COWD sincerely apologized to their customers and are now making moves to moderate the situation.
