10 Nov Yolanda Survivors Light Candles, Commemorate 3rd Anniversary of Yolanda
In commemoration of the third anniversary of Super Typhoon Yolanda, internationally known as Haiyan, Yolanda survivors gathered for a candle lighting memorial and tribute in Tacloban City last November 8, 2016, Tuesday.
The memorial was organized by media groups CAT Network, DYVL-Aksyon Radyo, iFM, Leyte-Samar Express, Magic FM, PRTV and Thunder FM, with the Greenpeace Philippines.
“This is a memorial for those who were never recovered. It’s difficult to grieve when you don’t know where exactly you should grieve,” said event’s head organizer Jeff Manibay from One Tacloban, adding that the memorial is dedicated to the rested souls, especially those whose bodies were not recovered after Yolanda’s onslaught.
The candle light memorial will serve as an alternative place for grieving among residents who lost their loved ones.
“I feel that this is an important process for their [Yolanda survivors] healing and for all of us to continue healing our nation and the lives of people who were impacted by Yolanda. This event is something that people are looking forward to; a place to converge and just to express the continuing hope for the future,” said Yeb Saño, executive director of Greenpeace Southeast Asia.
